This LNWR 4w saloon was kept in the paint shop at Derby in the 1930s.

Can anyone give any more details or tell me what became of it please?

This is an enquiry from a friend.

Thanks

Steve

This saloon dates from the 1860s and was used as an Inspection Saloon, and was kept in the paint shop at Derby until about 1936, when it was broken up as an act of vandalism along with several other important historical locomotives. See Talbot's LMWR Miscellany Volume 2 Plate 43.

The engine to the left appears to be a full-size replica of the Liverpool & Manchester Railway's Northumbrian of 1830. Presumably this was made for the L&MR Centenary celebrations; it may not have been very accurate (the cylinder looks dangerously close to the trailing wheel) but was obviously the result of a lot of work.

I suppose it disappeared at the same time as the old saloon.
