I am currently building a G1/2 would it be correct to finish it in unlined black for the period 1919 to 1925 as LNWR, or could it have be in LMS livery in 1925?

You need a copy of Teds book Eight Coupled Goods Engines.

Hope got this correct, you are far better off to find a photo that suits your requirements !
G2's were built in 1921-22, only 2 had their LMS numbers by 1925. Similarly only a couple of G1's got their LMS number in 1925 (quick look only).
So you are lucky enough to carry on with LNWR number and livery.
