We all know the familiar LNWR toolboxes used on most engines, but the Coal Tanks had longer ones with three hinges instead of two. Any idea why the Coal Tanks alone (I think) had these longer ones?

Just curious, being one of those things one thinks about when making a model of one.

Could it be that because the Coal Tank was 'slimmer' than the 4'6"/5'6"/18" tanks the toolboxes were made longer and narrower to fit the bunker.....just an idea

Hmm, I never thought of that. Could be. Thanks John.
