David,

I am just trying to understand how the forum works.

However, I am sure you are aware that the Micklehurst Loop was used by passenger trains until closure, although all would be non stop between Huddersfield and Stalybridge. A number were specifically timetabled over the line, but the signalmen at Diggle and Stalybridge No4 would divert expresses if there were any operational difficulties on the line via Greenfield. The two Down Stockport Edgeley to Bradford Exchange services between 1962 and 1966 travelled over this line, the latter conveying the Palethorpes Van off the 15.55 from Birmingham New Street to Manchester London Road which was attached at Dudley Port. I remember the latter move in the 1950s being undertaken by the L&NWR 5'8", 2-4-2T on the Dudley Motor train, which was shedded at Walsall.
