I'd just like to offer a belated word of thanks to Richard Foster for his mention in the December Newsletter of the SMJ exhibition currently running at Towcester Museum. Richard perhaps did not know, but members of our 'sister' organisation the Stratford-on-Avon and Midland Junction Railway Society played an important part in prompting and supporting this exhibition (sadly, although I belong to the Society, I was not one of those involved, my self-imposed exile to this part of France posing something of a handicap). The exhibition will run until the end of February, but the OO gauge model railway representing Towcester station will be withdrawn mid-February to (re-)join the exhibition circuit, so if you wish to see that you need to visit promptly. I would encourage anyone in the vicinity to pop in - for those who have only sped past Towcester on the revamped A43, it is an historic coaching town with various elements of interest remaining, including a number of worthwhile hostelries. Its fortunes, of course, declined with the building of the L&NWR main line (as the L&B railway), which took most of the passenger traffic from the coaching lines plying the old Watling Street (it's not too far south to also pop into Stony Stratford for the famous 'Cock' and 'Bull' inns if you wish).
