Re: The Railway Photographs of P.W. Pilcher.

Plate 72 on page 50 of this book shows GW 'Bulldog' No.3342 Orion on a train supposedly on February 1901 (ref: FB6299). However it is a summer shot, trees are in leaf, and is similar to an unpublished view of 'Improved Precedent' No.257 Duke of Albany on train taken on 1 July 1901. Therefore, does anyone know the true indentity of the negative or print from which plate 72 was reproduced?

I have a scan of negative FB6299 and it is a different view of No.3342 on the train and obviously taken in winter.

Gareth

The print you mention as being FB6299 is unknown to me. As the only print of 'Orion' in both indices is the one as printed in the book, I was unaware of any other. I cannot remember where I acquired my print , but it has no reference number on it, so it could be that it is an unlisted print and yours is obviously the genuine FB 6299
