Unfortunately this has been a problem heard many times over the last 25 years. I suggest you send a copy to the Chairman. One advantage of this forum is that the acting Chairman is of course the person who approved your post on here, so with luck he has already picked it up and you will by now have received a reply?

Mike

Picked it up yes, put it on to do list yes, acted yet, nope.

Melvyn please forward the email onto chairman@lnwrs.org.uk

David

Dear Melvyn,

It was not a barb but a statement of fact, Philip wants nothing to do with it, like my Father. I could equally have said my brother, who is my younger brother and hates the Facebook concept with a passion, it just so happens Dad is the one at the front of my mind as I mention to him things to get Mum to show him on there, as my Mother however loves the concept, though is careful in how she has bought into it. Considering the society pages membership currently stands at 946, it would be a pretty pointless barb to make when 32.5% of that membership have their age listed as 65+.

Myself in honesty I think Facebook has benefits and pitfalls, but social media is here, and thus far its generated some new members, some have gone to the Study Centre, some have submitted bits and pieces that in time will end up in the Journal. Financially it costs nothing to operate, just a bit of someone's time who likes doing that kind of thing. Its not everyone's cup of tea and I fully accept that, but it would be remiss if we did not exploit an opportunity to promote ourselves and increase the membership.

The photo collection numbers some 30,000 images, and the amount that have been uploaded barely dints that total, and a good number of them have already been published in the Journal. NRM photos have also been used preserving our photo collection, and older articles have been put on there as well to generate interest. It is a promotional tool for the society, in the same way a stand at a modelling show uses photographs for display to attract people to join us.

Regards your enquiry if you would please forward it to chairman or sales@lnwrs.org.uk I will see what I can do to help you. I know the photographic officer has had some issues with his email of late so it may have got lost. Please email me and I will be happy to help.

I will put the photos being widely available on the next EC agenda, to try and distribute 30K images is going to take a bit of planning and thought but I like the idea of making things available.

Kind Regards

David
